octomom - nadya suleman

i think that there has been enough said about octomom and lot of people making very dirty fun of people like Nadya Suleiman like Jimmy Kimmel. She is a woman with real big heart to have 14 kids in it and wanting a big family as she has no siblings and had no company in her childhood.

for those who do not know :- Nadya Suleiman is a 33 yr old single parent with 14 kids and what is wonderful is that all have been in vitro fertilization. it is a wonder treatment for people who cannot conceive naturally.

well here's her story, Nadya has six children from such in vitro fertilizations and was herself in surprise when she was found to have 7 out of 8 embryos viable, the eight one being a surprise at the operation table.

she has been a topic of debate in most household and has received dead threats and has been accused of being selfish of bringing eight more lives when she has no clue what she is going to do with the first six. right now she is living with her mom and they hardly have space for them. even when the babies were growing in her womb, had no place and have poorly developed organs internally, but they are alive and are the second such set to be alive next to the Chukwu octoplets from 1998.

the angels as the octuplets are called have been doing well sine their birth on January 265, 2009. the hospital has released four babies to the Suleiman's but i think they are yet to release the other four.

Nadya has been despised by many for living off of welfare checks which are nothing but tax payers hard earned money, but she defends her self that she only uses food stamps and not welfare money...... also she has claimed disability for three of her children.

when asked how she is going to raise these children and what she was thinking while doing this, she seems very upbeat and says she will finish her degree and start earning and take care of all the 14 kids and she is confident that she can be for each child when it needs her but at the same time she will need help around the house hold to raise these children.

Nadya's story has been doing the rounds like crazy and the doctor who helped her with the fertilization is also in deep trouble now as, per standard protocol, during an in vitro fertilization only 2-3 embryos should be implanted. Nadya did not wish to destroy the embryos which were frozen. so she got all the 6 implanted.

A simple twist of fate - not the movie - the last two embryos became two sets of twins and the eight angel was a total big surprise as ultrasound showed only 7 babies. what is more interesting is Nadya was offered selective reduction whereby she could have aborted a few babies. and which you know she rejected.

Nadya now visits her Angels - that's what she calls them all the eight. four have come home and four are yet to come. Her own mother is of the opinion that she is not capable of taking care of all the kids. Nadya says she will do her best for her children and will not use welfare or govt subsidies as a part of her income and these are only temporary. she is also welcome for child services to visit her anytime they want to monitor the children and their growth.

a lot has been spoken about her, why have i written so much about her...... well there are two things you can learn from this - that medical science keeps on getting better but just like a coin has a flip side, there will always be a downside to anything new and it is for us to analyze if this is what we want or do not want and act accordingly.

the second being Nadya's single mindedness regarding her 14 children, to have a large family in spite of people calling her crazy and selfish, confident of raising all of the kids with minimal external support. she also is confident that the biological father, who is basically a friend and who had agreed to donate his sperm every single time without any bondage or attachment to the babies to be born is a little shocked and will come around and be a part of this one big family.

i did learn one thing from Nadya - keep your mind set on something and try to achieve it come what may. you may not get support from your own family but that does not stop oneself. she says she takes full responsibility and does not have a single doubt about the future of her family. that s really inspiring except for 14 children part , nayyyyyyyyyyyyyy........
